The quality of its workforce decides the effectiveness of a business, and carried to its logical end, of globalization itself. And the quality of workforce is determined by the development of the individuals comprising it. Jack P. Shonkoff, Professor of Child Health at Harvard School of Public Health highlighted the importance of child development in this context.

According to him, babies are born with most of their brain cells but not the circuitry that connects them. It is the brain circuitry that determines individual skills and the approach each individual adopts to deal with the world. And these circuits develop in response to environmental forces rather than genetic factors.
